Children Injured In Alleged Drug Crash
An appeal for witnesses has been launched after a traffic collision in the St Helens area of Liverpool on Sunday where two children were injured, one critically.
Officers were called to Prescot Road, near to the junction of Dunriding Lane, at 6pm following reports that two children had been injured.
Police said that on arrival they found a boy and girl, both aged 11, injured having been struck by a car heading out of St Helens.
Paramedics treated both victims at scene before taking them to hospital. The girl's condition is not life-threatening however the boy's condition is described as critical and he has been transferred to Alder Hey hospital for surgery.
Their families have been informed.
The driver of the car involved in the collision - a 24-year-old local man - stopped at the scene and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit and under the influence of drugs.
The road has been been cordoned off to allow road traffic collision investigators to attend the scene.
Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to call the collision investigation team 0151 777 5444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Meanwhile, a woman has been injured in a separate collision in Newcastle.
Police said they are also appealing for witnesses after the collision in which an elderly pedestrian was injured.
The incident happened on Friday, November 25, at 1pm in Tynemouth at the junction of Grand Parade and Parkside. A red Nissan Micra was travelling south on Grand Parade and turned right into Parkside when it collided with an 86-year-old woman who was crossing the road.
She suffered a broken right leg and received treatment at hospital and is now recovering at home.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 03456 043043 ext 69191 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

North Wales Police have reported a second collision on the A55 expressway in north Wales, which shut the road completely. A man was fatally injured in a collision involving two HGV lorries and a transit van on Tuesday morning between St Asaph and Abergale.

Three people have been injured in a road crash on the M4 in Wiltshire. According to reports, a lorry and a car transporter collided on the road between the Swindon East and Hungerford junctions just after midnight on Thursday. It is understood that a man has been arrested in connection with the collision.

A young boy remains in a serious condition in hospital after being involved in a road traffic incident in the West Midlands yesterday. The 11-year-old was injured following a collision with a car in Wolverhampton. The boy was cycling close to a busy main road in Oldbury at the time.
