Police in Solihull are trying to trace the owners of a stolen charity collection box they have recovered. On 21 December a member of the public saw a charity box being thrown from the window of a car being driven along Dog Kennel Lane in Shirley. The witness followed the car to Notcutts car park and as a result of their vigilance two men aged 45 and 32 were subsequently arrested on suspicion of theft. Both are currently on police bail pending further enquiries. The box was a Marie Curie charity collection box but there were no identifying marks or details on it. Police are keen to establish if any one had a collection box stolen on or around 21 December 2011. If anyone has any information please contact PC Jannine Ancian at Solihull police station on 101.

Police Issue Warning Against Rogue Trader Tree Surgeons

Police in the West-Midlands have issued a warning to vulnerable people against approaches by rogue tree surgeons. In a recent incident, an elderly couple were approached by a man asking for money to cut down a tree in their front garden following a complaint. According to police, the resident did hand over a quantity of cash, but the fraudster grabbed more cash from him before leaving in a white van. He was described as a white male of large build, aged approximately 40 to 50 and wearing an orange safety helmet. Police believe there may be other incidents which haven't been reported to local police due to the vulnerability of victims and fear of possible repercussions. Inspector Denise Clarke from West Bromwich Police Station said: "We want to warn people, particularly the elderly not to do business with cold callers at the door. If they need garden work done or trees felled they should contact Sandwell trading Standards on 0121 569 6605, who have a trade register which lists reputable firms who can carry out this work." "We would also like to ask local people in the areas to keep a watch for people calling at the door in areas where they have elderly neighbours and report any suspicious activity to local officers." Anyone with information or anyone wishing to report a crime should contact Sandwell Police on 0345 113 5000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. In an emergency dial 999.
