UK Police Investigate Libya Rendition Claims
British police are to investigate claims that UK secret services helped in the rendition of a man to Libya. The Metropolitan Police and Crown Prosecution Service said MI5 and MI6 officers would not be charged over separate torture collusion claims. One of the leaders of the anti-Gaddafi forces is suing the UK over his transfer to Libya and subsequent torture. The government has set up an inquiry into claims of rendition.
Kimberley Hainey Jailed For 15 years Over Murdering Son
A mother who murdered her toddler son at their flat in Renfrewshire has been jailed for a minimum of 15 years. Kimberley Hainey, 37, was convicted of killing Declan at their home in Bruce Road, Paisley, and hiding his body to avoid a police investigation. The child's mummified body was found in his cot in March 2010 - eight months after he was last seen alive. Jailing Hainey for life, judge Lord Woolman said she would have to live with the fact she murdered her son.
British Gas To Reduce Standard Electricity Prices By 5%
British Gas, one of the the biggest suppliers of gas and electricity to homes in Britain, has today announced an average five per cent reduction in its standard domestic electricity prices. The price cut takes effect immediately and re-establishes British Gas as the cheapest major standard electricity supplier, on average, in Britain. All 5.3 million British Gas single rate electricity customers on a variable tariff will benefit from the price reduction, each saving an average £24 on their annual electricity bill. In a full year, British Gas electricity customers will save more than £100 million. Ian Peters, Managing Director, Energy, at British Gas, said: "We want to keep prices as low as possible for our customers. Household budgets are stretched, and we are doing everything we can to help our customers keep their bills down. This price reduction means British Gas is once again offering the cheapest standard electricity, on average, of any major supplier."

Centrica Posts £1 Million In Profits - To Consumers Anger
British Gas owner Centrica has posted half-year profits of almost £1 billion - much to the anger of consumer groups. Centrica maintain that it has been "absolutely necessary" to raise household gas prices as profits were down 20% in the first six months of this year to £992 million - down from £1.23 billion in 2007.

Gas prices could rise again
British Gas has warned customers that gas prices could be increased again. Centrica, which owns British Gas, said that the price rises were being introduced because of expectations of an increase in wholesale prices. The price rises would follow a 12.4% increase in September last year and a further rise of 5.9% in January.
