Salmond, Cameron And Clegg To Talk Independence
Scotland’s First Minister, Alex Salmond, has invited the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister to Scotland to discuss an independence referendum.
The SNP government are understood to want the referendum to proceed with consent but warned that Westminister would not be allowed to bully Scotland.
It is understood that Nick Clegg and Mr Salmond spoke prior to the British Irish summit in Dublin which is being attended by leaders from across Britain and Ireland: including the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Northern Ireland's First and Deputy First Ministers Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness.
Plans to hold an independence referendum in the autumn of 2014 were revealed by Scotland’s FM earlier in the week.
The FM said this date would allow the Scottish people to make a 'considered' decision on Scotland's future within the United Kingdom and that the Scottish people faced 'their most important decision for 300 years'.
The Scottish Government will launch a consultation on the referendum later this month.
