Son Claims Dead Father’s Benefits

A man has admitted that he failed to report the death of his father for up to five months and pocketed his benefit payments. Christopher Blackburn, 29, pleaded guilty to preventing a lawful and decent burial of a dead body between October 31 2010 and March 23 last year. Police found the body of Guy Blackburn, 54, on a bed in the living room of his home in Penwortham, Lancashire, on March 22 last year after neighbours raised concerns.

Police Work On Anti-Gang Plan

Scotland Yard is developing a new strategy to tackle gang-related crime and serious youth violence in the capital. The force confirmed senior Metropolitan Police officials are in the process of finalising details of the fresh approach, which will put an enhanced focus on cracking down on London's gang culture.

Powers Over Regeneration Will Remain With Communities

Local Government Minister Grant Shapps has insisted that communities will be kept firmly in the driving seat and able to determine the future of their local areas. In his response to a report from the Department for Communities and Local Government select committee, Mr Shapps rejected the committee's call for a top-down national strategy for regeneration, insisting that decisions on regeneration activities and schemes should rest with local people. He published a refreshed regeneration toolkit, highlighting the range of powers and tools devolved from Whitehall to Town Halls, businesses and residents themselves to drive the regeneration they want and need in their areas.
