Girl 11 Lies About Assaulted
An 11-year-old girl has admitted she lied to police about being assaulted by a man who got out of a van as she walked home from school. The youngster had said the incident happened in Bracken Road, North Baddesley on Friday afternoon (January 13) and that two men in a white van followed her and one got out chased her and pushed her to the ground. However today (January 18) she attended Romsey Police Station with her father and admitted to officers she had made up the story. She told them she was sorry for what she had done and sorry for worrying lots of parents. Officers have spoken with her and given her words of advice around her behaviour but will not be taking any further action. They would also like to reassure local people that no such incident took place and no school pupil was assaulted.
Appeal Over Damaged Car
Witnesses are being asked to come forward after a car was damaged in South Shields. The incident happened between 10pm, on Tuesday, January 17 and 7.05am, on Wednesday, January 18. The offender approached the vehicle, parked on Basil Way, before scratching the paintwork. Anyone who witnessed or has any information on the incident is being asked to come forward. People can contact police on 101 extension 69191 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11.
Avtar And Carole Kolar Deaths
A man has been charged with the murder of a West Midlands couple. Avtar Kolar, 62, and his wife Carole, 58, who had been married for 40 years, were found dead at their Handsworth Wood home in Birmingham by a serving police officer, on 11 January. Lithuanian Rimvydas Liorancas, 37, appeared before magistrates in the city and was remanded in custody.

MoJ Reveal Drone Used In Prison Smuggle Attempt
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has revealed that a drone was used to try and smuggle a package into the grounds of HMP Bedford. An MoJ spokesperson said that the aircraft was "quickly intercepted by vigilant staff" on 06 March.

Murder Victim Made 'Repeat Allegations'
A woman who was found murdered had made "repeat allegations" about a man police believed killed her, it has emerged. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has confirmed it launched an investigation into the actions of West Midlands Police before the death of Clare Wood, 36, who was killed in Blackfriars, Salford.

E.On To Pay Additional £7m For Overcharging
E.On, one of the UK's 'Big Six' energy suppliers, is to pay an additional fine of more than £7m for overcharging its customers. The company will have to pay a penalty of £7.75m after incorrectly charging exit fees and/or overcharged its customers, following price increases. The fine is in addition to £400,000 E.

House Prices Continue To Fall
The North East of England has experienced the greatest annual price fall in house value as the March data from Land Registry's House Price Index revealed an annual price decrease of 2.3% which takes the average property value in England and Wales to £160,996. The monthly change from February to March is a decrease of 1.1%.
