Airman from Royal Air Force Killed In Afghanistan
The Ministry of Defence has announced an airman from the Royal Air Force Regiment was killed in Afghanistan on Monday.
The airman was killed by small arms fire whilst on a routine partnered patrol in the Nad 'Ali district of Helmand province.
Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Mackenzie, a spokesman for British forces in Helmand, said: "It is my sad duty to report that an airman from the Royal Air Force Regiment was fatally wounded during an insurgent attack in the western dashte area of Nad 'Ali, Helmand province, whilst on a patrol to interact with the local population.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult time."
The airman's family have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released.

MoD Names British Airman Killed In Iraq
The Ministry of Defence has named the British airman killed during a rocket attack on a base in Basra last Friday as Sergeant Duane 'Baz' Barwood. The 41-year-old, who was attached to 903 Expeditionary Air Wing, Royal Air Force, was killed during a rocket attack on the Contingency Operating Base.

Soldier Dies In Southern Afghanistan
A British soldier has been killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has said. The serviceman from the 2nd Battalion the Mercian Regiment was on an operation near Garmsir in Helmand Province, and next of kin have been informed.

A soldier from 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh has been killed in an explosion in Afghanistan. The soldier died in a blast while on vehicle patrol in the Musa Qal'eh District in northern Helmand Province at the weekend and his death means 218 British soldiers have now died during the war in Afghanistan.

Probe continues into two US soldiers at Guantanamo Bay
The US Defense Department is continuing its investigations into two servicemen associated with the confinement facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Both cases involve personnel assigned to Camp Delta on US Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, where the US is detaining suspected al-Qaeda and Taliban members.
