Plane Makes Emergency Landing At Gatwick
Flights in and out of Gatwick Airport have been suspended after a plane was forced to make an emergency landing following a report of smoke in the cabin.
Virgin flight VS027 had left the West Sussex airport at 10:48 and was bound for Orlando in the US when it had to return to make the landing.
Passengers have been evacuated by emergency services and there are expected to be "major delays" on incoming and outgoing flights.
Sonic Boom Helicopter Lucky To Survive
Passengers in the helicopter that triggered a hijack response by two Typhoon jets, was told they were lucky to be alive.
Anthony Knott, 47, from Dorset, was flying home on Thursday when the helicopter mistakenly sent a distress signal. Two Typhoon jets were scrambled leading to a sonic boom across central England.
Mr Knott was told the helicopter only survived the turbulence from the jets because it was ex-military.
"It was like being in Top Gun or something," he told BBC News.
"All of a sudden this plane came from underneath us. The turbulence sucked us round 30 degrees and the pilot said we were lucky to be alive."
The helicopter was flying over the Cotswolds near Bath when it was intercepted.
Insufficient Evidence In Oxford Professor’s Death
No further action will be taken over the death of an Oxford professor.
Steven Rawlings, 50, was found dead at a bungalow in Southmoor in January belonging to fellow university professor Dr Devinder Sivia.
Dr Sivia, 49, was arrested on suspicion of murder and bailed following the death on 12 January.
Following police inquiries, the Crown Prosecution Service has decided there is insufficient evidence for the case to go to court.
