UK House Prices Rise

In the year to February 2012, UK house prices increased by 0.3 per cent, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

The average UK mix-adjusted house price was £224,473.

Average house prices increased in both England and Scotland by 0.4 per cent and 1.1 per cent respectively. These increases were offset by decreases in Wales, where average prices decreased by 0.5 per cent, and Northern Ireland, where average prices fell by 9.7 per cent over

The annual increase in average house prices in England was driven by increases in both London and the South East, where prices increased over the year by 1.7 per cent and 1.2 per cent respectively.

Prices of new dwellings rose by 7.7 per cent during the 12 months to February 2012, while the price of pre-owned dwellings decreased by 0.2 per cent in the same period.

According to the Halifax, the property price rise is slowing down dramatically. House prices rose by only 0.4 per cent in June, which was a massive drop below the 4.2 per cent rise in the final quarter of last year.
