Olympic Sandcastle Demolished After Photo Shoot

A giant sandcastle built on Weymouth beach to mark 100 days to the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games has been demolished just hours after it was finished because of health and safety fears.

The fort took a sculptor four days to build in Dorset, where sailing events will be held, but as soon as publicity pictures were taken the structure was bulldozed.

Officials feared that the castle, paid for by the organising committee for the games, Locog, could topple and injure someone. If they had fenced it off, they felt they would have had to bring in security guards to make sure people did not venture too close.

Oldest Unrestored Mini Up For Auction

The oldest surviving, unrestored, Mini Se7en De Luxe will be auctioned later this month.

Despite its current condition the car is expected to see bids up to £15,000.

John Polson, of Bonhams Auctioneers, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity to buy the car and restore it. Collectors love the fact it has had very little done to it since it was built.

Blumenthal Designs Jubilee Lunch Menu

Experimental chef Heston Blumenthal will design the menu for a special picnic to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Alongside royal chef Mark Flanagan a menu of classic British dishes with a modern twist will be served to around 12,000 guests.

At the Buckingham Palace launch today, Mr Blumenthal said the chefs had gone for cold dishes, because they are more practical to serve to thousands of people.

"My favourite - because it's really nostalgic for me - is Coronation Chicken. It was created for the coronation and it's got wonderful soft, sweet spices.

"It's beautiful, but I have to say that, don't I?" he added.
