More Arrests Made During Investigation Into Police Payments

Three people have been arrested in connection with illegal payments made to police and public officials by journalists.

This brings the total number of people arrested, as part of Scotland Yard’s Operation Elveden, to 26 since last July.

Police have said that information provided by News Corporation led to the arrests.

A Scotland Yard statement said: "Today's operation is the result of information provided to police by News Corporation's management standards committee.

"It relates to suspected payments to a public official and is not about seeking journalists to reveal confidential sources in relation to information that has been obtained legitimately."

Officers arrested a 42-year-old former serviceman on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, and a 38-year-old woman on suspicion of aiding and abetting misconduct in a public office, at their Lancashire home at around 06:00 on Thursday.

Another man, 36, who lives in Kent, was taken into custody on suspicion of conspiracy to corrupt and conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office.
