Controversial Minicab Boss Blames Cyclists For Road Accidents

A call for a boycott of the UK’s biggest minicab firm has been made by campaigners and politicians following claims by its chairman that cyclists are responsible for accidents simply by taking to the roads and should expect to be hurt by drivers.

John Griffin, founder and chairman of the Addison Lee taxi company, is facing a backlash for using his column in the April edition of the firm’s Add Lib magazine to suggest that cyclists are irresponsible for “throwing themselves onto some of the most congested spaces in the world” and also criticises those who are “up in arms about what they see as the murder of cyclists on London roads”.

The follows the in the wake of the minicab boss controversially instructing his drivers to drive in London’s bus lanes in spite of it being illegal.

Mannequin Entered As Election Candidate

A woman has been arrested for entering a mannequin as a candidate for the upcoming council elections.

The dummy, named Helena Torry, was entered in the Hazlehead, Ashley and Queens Cross ward in Aberdeen.

Grampian Police yesterday charged its election “agent” Renee Slater under the Representation of the People Act.

A force spokeswoman said: "Grampian Police can confirm that a 63-year-old female was charged in connection with an offence under the Representation of the People Act 1983 on Thursday April 19. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal in due course.

Ban On Christian Radio Ad Upheld

A Christian radio station has lost a High Court challenge against the banning of an advert because it was "directed to a political end".

The proposed ad on Premier Christian Radio sought information on Christians who felt "marginalised" at work.

A judge said the Radio Advertising Clearance Centre (RACC) acted lawfully when it banned the advertisement.

Asian Radio Presenter Murdered
Police in Glasgow are investigation the "brutal" killing of a radio presenter at her home. Nasim Jamil, who worked for Asian radio station Awaz FM, was found by family in her Byres Road flat on Wednesday. Strathclyde Police said she had last been seen earlier in the day. A postmortem examination is currently underway on Ms Jamil's remains.

BP Tanker Drivers To Strike Over Pension And Pay Dispute
Grangemouth oil refinery tanker drivers will walk out for three days next Friday in a dispute over pensions and pay. The Unite members at the Forth estuary facility, employed by BP, will also ban overtime from Monday in action the union said would hit aviation supplies and deliveries to BP forecourts across Scotland and the north east of England.
