NHS Reveal A&E Action Plan For Busy Summer

The NHS has revealed its plans for dealing with an influx of patients during an increasingly busy summer.

These will include drunken revellers will be treated in "booze buses" and field hospitals and have injuries stitched up at the roadside.

One central London hospital is being put on "semi internal major incident" alert from Monday ready for the Queen's diamond jubilee celebrations next weekend, adopting a protocol usually only seen on New Year's Eve.

Doctors, ambulance services and the police are finalising measures to keep those who have been binge drinking during the jubilee celebrations, Euro 2012 and the Olympics out of A&E to ensure hospitals do not become overwhelmed.

Lorry Driver Dies Following Collision And Fire

A 45-year-old lorry driver died when a lorry laden with vodka caught fire in a crash on the M25 in Essex.

The vehicle collided with another lorry between junctions 27 and 28 near Brentwood at about 01:00 BST. The second driver suffered minor injuries.

It happened after police set up a rolling roadblock to slow traffic and remove debris from an HGV tyre blowout from the carriageway.

The crash led to the closure of the motorway in both directions.

Schoolboy Arrested For Death Of Fellow Pupil Following Fight

A 14-year-old schoolboy has died following an alleged schoolyard fight with another pupil.

Police confirmed that Euan Craig had died in hospital on Thursday as a result of his injuries. The boy's relatives had held a vigil around his bed at the Southern general hospital in Glasgow, but he died shortly after midday.

It is thought the boy's injuries were sustained after an altercation with another boy near the gymnasium at Rosshall academy in the Crookston area of Glasgow.

Lorry Driver Arrested Over M26 Pile-Up
A 45-year-old lorry driver has been arrested in connection with a road accident that killed two people and left seven others injured. A 22-year-old woman and 16-year-old girl died in the five-vehicle pile up on the M26 near Kemsing which happened around 09:40 on Wednesday morning.

'Black Alert' Hospital Cancels Routine Operations
Plymouth Hospitals Trust in Devon has cancelled more than 1,000 routine operations, according to a report by the BBC. It is understood that the hospital has been on "black alert" since January: a black alert is issue when a hospital is overwhelmed by demand.

Women Diagnosed With Cancer Following Recall Of Patients
Six out of 30 women recalled following concerns about breast cancer screenings have been diagnosed with the disease. Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust recalled the women after a review of 626 cases between 2011 and 2014. It is understood that all the women were screened by the same radiologist.

Only Third Of Hospitals Share Crime Data With Police
Only a third of areas in England are following through on a government pledge to make hospitals share violent crime data with police, an audit has shown. The results of the Department of Health audit have cause the government to write to hospitals and chief constables for an explanation.

Park Death Boy Died From 'Head Injuries'
A post mortem has found that a teenager beaten to death in a public park died from head injuries. Seventeen-year-old Amar Aslam was found in a West Yorkshire park on Sunday evening by two passers-by. Emergency services were called to Crow Nest Park, Dewsbury at around 7.00pm but Amar was pronounced dead at the scene.
