14 Sentenced Over Nottingham Riots

Twelve men and two youths have been sentenced for their part in riots during which a police station was firebombed during the disorder last summer.

The 14 were sentenced at Nottingham crown court for the roles they played in the disturbances in Nottingham city centre during which Canning Circus police station was firebombed last August.

Three police officers and three PCSOs were inside during the attack when nine lighted petrol bombs were thrown at the station.

Diageo Invest £1bn To Capatlise On Whisky Surge

Drinks giant Diageo, owner of Johnnie Walker and Bell's whisky, is to spend around £1bn on substantially increasing its whisky production to exploit a sharp surge in global demand for Scotch.

The London-based firm announced on Wednesday morning that it would build a new malt distillery, expand its existing whisky distilleries and greatly increase its bottling capacity to cope with the increase in worldwide sales, as part of a five-year expansion strategy.

Scotch whisky and malt whisky have seen a significant increase in sales worldwide, raising anxieties that the industry may be unable to keep pace with demand, leading to temporary shortages and price rises.

Woman Admits Murdering 86-Year-Old

A woman has admitted bludgeoning an 86-year-old to death at her home in south-east London.

Karen Williamson, 46, pleaded guilty to the murder of Jean Jobson in Oakridge Road, Downham, in February 2011, where she was paid to clear the garden.

Williamson, of Rangefield Road, Downham, who has worked as an extra in EastEnders, attacked the victim with a hammer and heavy glass jug.

Scotland's First Minister Jack McConnell yesterday opened the country's fastest whisky bottling plant. The £3 million state-of-the-art, high-speed bottling plant at Edrington Group's Glasgow premises, can produce 600 bottles of Scotch every minute.

Police Search Tunnels For Nottingham Murder Victim
Police investigating the murder of a 21-year-old man in Nottingham in January 2014 are to search tunnels beneath a former cigarette factory which were destroyed in a fire. Police are continuing to search for the remains of Bogdan Mawrocki, who went missing from his home in Radford at the start of 2014.

Nottinghamshire PC Face Sexual Misconduct Charges
A police officer has appeared in front of Nottingham Magistrates' Court to face six charges of sexual misconduct against six women. The charges against 46-year-old Chris Young, a PC with Nottinghamshire police based in Hucknall, date between 2003 and 2012. He is currently suspended from duty and was bailed to appear again on 04 February.

Man Remanded In Custody Over Fire Death Of Six Children
A man has appeared in court charged with murdering six siblings in a fire that ripped through their home as they slept. 45-year-old Paul Barry Mosley appeared at Derby magistrates court on Tuesday charged with the murders of Jade Philpott, 10, and her brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six, Jayden, five, and 13-year-old Duwayne.
