Taxi Driver Rapist Victims In Damages Case Setback
Victims of black cab rapist John Worboys have lost a crucial step in their High Court battle for damages.
John Worboys, 54, was convicted in 2009 of drugging and sexually assaulting women while working as a licensed London taxi driver.
Ten victims had asked the High Court to rule on whether insurers were liable for damages because Worboys' crimes were committed in his insured taxi.
But Mr Justice Silber has ruled against the women.
He dismissed applications brought against Inceptum Insurance Company Limited on a preliminary issue of whether it was liable for compensation.
The judge expressed the "greatest sympathy" for the women "in the light of the horrifying experiences that they suffered at the hands of Worboys".
But he said his duty was to "follow the appropriate legal principles".

UK sees 20% increase in multiple births over 10 years
Mothers are having 20% more multiple births than they were a decade ago, according to figures released today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). Statistics have revealed that in 2002, the multiple birth rate was 15 per 1,000 women giving birth, compared with 12.5 in 1992.

Iraq war hero awarded High Court damages
Colonel Tim Collins, who won praise for his pre-Iraq war speech to British troops, has won undisclosed libel damages against two UK newspapers for allegations made about his conduct during the war. Col Collins won damages against the Sunday Express and Sunday Mirror newspapers at the High Court in Belfast on Friday.
