Thames Cable Car Opens
The new Thames cable car has opened.
The Emirates Air Line is the first urban cable car system of its kind in the UK, providing a new and exciting river crossing in the area.
The cable car will allow up to 2,500 pedestrians, wheelchair users and cyclists to cross the river Thames within five minutes, from terminals at Greenwich Peninsula and Royal Docks.
The service will operate from 7am to 9pm daily. A single adult fare on the pay-as-you-go Oyster card will cost £3.20 while the cash fare will be £4.30, Transport for London (TfL) said.
It is hoped will encourage regeneration in the area and provide access to visitor attractions.
The Dubai-based airline is sponsoring the cable car for 10 years at a cost of £36m.
