Suspected Illegal Immigrants Detained At Olympic Torch Manufacturer
A firm that made this year's Olympic torches has been accused of employing illegal immigrants from India.
The Sun newspaper reported today that border officers and police held nine men after a raid on Crown Polishing and Plating in Wolverhampton.
The company now faces prosecution and a hefty fine.
Embarrassingly for the firm and for the organisers of the London 2012 Games, security staff guarding the torch manufacturer had not picked up on the illegal workers before the raid happened.
UK Border Agency officials became suspicious in February and raided the company’s premises with the help of police and dogs.
The arrested men are aged between 20 and 58 and their stories are not yet clear.
A London 2012 spokesman said: "The company was not directly contracted and the issue has been dealt with by the UK Border Agency.”
