Jogger Killed By Fallen Power Cable
A man has died while out jogging when an electricity cable came down in a field.
Emergency services were called to Debden Road in Newport, near Saffron Walden, Essex, at 20:40 on Tuesday.
The man, believed to be in his 50s and from the Saffron Walden area, suffered severe burns after coming into contact with the downed cable and was pronounced dead at the scene, Essex fire service has confirmed.
Paramedics treated two other people at the scene for minor electric shock injuries.
The electricity board was called in by the fire service to isolate power to the cable.
A police spokesman said the Health and Safety Executive had been informed of the death and a joint investigation with Essex fire service was under way.

The special operation will involve large numbers of additional BTP officers being deployed to work alongside BTP's dedicated cable squad of over 20 officers in the North.

British Gas Cuts Electricity Prices By 10%
British Gas, the biggest supplier of electricity to homes in Britain, has cut an average 10% off its standard electricity prices. The price cut for 4.5 million customers takes effect immediately. British Gas's electricity rates are now as much as £111 lower than the local supplier.

A new Communication Champion is also being recruited to raise the profile of these issues, Children's Secretary, Ed Balls and Care Services Minister Phil Hope announced today.

Under restructuring plans announced on Friday, Marks & Spencer is to axe around 1,000 jobs following a review of head office operations and the financial services division. The company said the decision formed a "major part of Marks & Spencer's ongoing plan to accelerate business transformation".

Severed Deer Head Left At Supermarket Self-Service Till
An investigation has begun after a deer's severed head was left at a self-service checkout in a Tesco store in Essex, police have said. The innards of the animal were also left in an isle of the supermarket on Radwinter Road in Saffron Walden. The incident occurred on 04 June at around 01:20 in the morning.
