Sex Attack Ringleader Jailed For 22 Years
The ringleader of a gang of men in Rochdale that groomed young girls for sex has been given a 22-year prison sentence after being convicted in a separate case.
Shabir Ahmed, of Oldham, Greater Manchester, was jailed for 19 years back in May after being convicted, along with eight other men, of sex offences against children.
But at the time, the "violent and controlling man" could not be identified because he was due to stand trial in another case involving 30 rapes of a young girl.
A jury convicted Ahmed of raping and sexually abusing the girl over more than a decade, and today he was given a 22-year sentence.
The former takeaway driver will serve his two sentences concurrently, meaning the most he could possible serve is 22 years.
The court heard he treated the young girl at the centre of the more recent case as a possession for his own sexual gratification. He was violent and dominated his victim, the court heard.
Prosecutor Rachel Smith said: "She tried to make him stop, but it was to n avail. The defendant was a violent and controlling man."
The jury was told that the victim felt a sense of shame about what happened to her, which stopped her reporting it to the police for many years.
The girl, who like all sex attack victims is anonymous for legal reasons, has been affected long-term by the abuse. She does not believe she will ever marry or have sex with a man of her own choice.
