Irish Guardsman wounded in Iraq
A soldier from Northern Ireland has been shot while on duty in southern Iraq.
Confirming the news, the Ministry of Defence said the soldier from the Irish Guards had already been flown to England where he is being treated for a flesh wound to a leg.
The soldier's mother has been flown in to be at his bedside.
Around 1,000 men and women from Northern Ireland are currently serving in the Gulf.

Soldier's Bodies Flown Home From Afghanistan
The bodies of four British soldiers who were killed in separate incidents in Afghanistan earlier this month, are to be flown home today. Rifleman Aminiasi Toge, 26, Corporal Joseph Etchells, 22, Captain Daniel Shepherd, 28, and Guardsman Christopher King, 20, were all killed in Helmand Province.

A former British soldier, who was in Iraq working as a private security guard, has been shot dead in the town of Hit, it has been reported today. Former Paratrooper Michael John Bloss, 38, from Bridgend, south Wales, was killed while protecting three electrical contractors, according to reports emerging today.

Another British soldier had been killed in southern Afghanistan, it has been confirmed by the Ministry of Defence. The soldier, from the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, attached to the 2nd Battalion the Parachute Regiment, died on Thursday, after coming under fire while on routine patrol.

Sergeant Christian Hickey, of the 1st Battalion the Coldstream Guards, died as a result of his injuries, following the explosion, which took place around 11:23 local time in Basra on Tuesday night.
