Halfords Reports 'Summer Of Sport' Sales Hike

Halfords has reported a sales boost attributed to success in the Tour de France and Olympic cycling.

Like-for-like bike sales excluding new stores soared by 14.7% in the three months to 28 September, and by 5.6% in the quarter, following a 5.6% fall in sales the previous quarter.

The company expects first half pre-tax profits of between £40m and £42m when it releases its interim results on 21 November.

They envisage full year profits at around £62m to £70m in comparison to the 27% fall in full-year profit to £92m reported in May.

The retailer appointed the former head of UK retailer Pets At Home Matt Davies as its new chief executive on Wednesday.

M&S Annual Profits Fall For Third Year In A Row
High street retailer Marks and Spencer has revealed a drop in profits for the third consecutive year. The retailer reported a 3.9% drop in its underlying annual pre-tax profit to £623m. The chain also said that it sales rose by 2.7% to £10.3bn in the year to March 29.

BT Profits Rise Despite Fall In Sales
BT has reported that despite a fall in sales they have seen a sharp rise in annual profits. While sales dropped by 4%, annual pre-tax profits rose by 42% to £2.4bn. Profits have been boosted by deep cost cuts and one-off gains of £166m, which included a large tax credit and interest from the pension fund.
