Portsmouth Council Considers Ban On Lap-Dance Clubs
Councillors in Portsmouth will decide on Friday afternoon on a motion to ban lap-dancing clubs in the city.
The decision follows a six-week consultation in March amid concerns over the affect of sex entertainment venues on the city.
The city's licensing committee will now decide whether to include or amend draft guidelines that say there is no appropriate place for the clubs.
It could mean that premises that currently hold appropriate licences are refused when they attempt to renew them.
The consultation received 3,425 responses - 1,672 of which were from outside the city.
However the council said 97% of all the respondents were against a total ban on the clubs.
The councillors' decision will give the licensing committee guidance to either, stop renewing existing licences, refuse new ones or use stricter guidelines when considering applications.
