Three By-Elections Begin
Voting has commenced in three parliamentary by-elections.
Polling stations in Croydon North, Middlesbrough and Rotherham are open until 11pm.
The Croydon and Middlesbrough contests were triggered by the deaths of MPs Malcolm Wicks and Sir Stuart Bell. The contest in Rotherham is due to the resignation of Denis MacShane.
The results will be revealed a few hours after the polling stations close.

Polling Stations Open For General Election Voting
Around 50,000 polling stations across the UK have opened to allow people to cast their votes in the General Election. Polls opened at 7am and will remain open until 10pm. Around 50 million people are registered to vote in this election, which will see 650 Westminster MPs elected.

Improvements For Welsh Rail Stations
Work has commenced on a £600,000 project to install new passenger shelters at rail stations across south Wales. Pyle Station will be the first to receive the new shelters, with a total of 21 to be installed at 18 locations by the end of November 2013.

New Essex Power Station Gets Underway
The UK Energy Minister Charles Hendry has given the go-ahead for InterGen’s proposals to construct a new 900MW gas power plant at the London Gateway Logistics Park, Coryton, Essex. The plans are for a new £600 million power station comprising of up to two CCGT generating units, each around 450MW in capacity.

Access Improvements Set For Hundreds Of Stations
Elderly and disabled passengers will benefit from safer and more accessible railway stations thanks to a multi-million pound Government cash boost, Transport Secretary Geoff Hoon has announced. A total of 523 stations across England and Wales will be upgraded thanks to £37 million of funding, which includes a £6.
