Inquest Hears Crash Helicopter Was Diverted

An inquest launched following a helicopter crash in central London has heard that the pilot had been diverted due to bad weather.

Capt Pete Barnes died from multiple injuries after the aircraft hit a crane on The Tower, St George Wharf, in Vauxhall, last Wednesday morning.

Southwark Coroner's Court heard that while en route from Surrey to Hertfordshire, Capt Barnes was diverted to Battersea heliport.

Matthew Wood, 39, of Sutton, south London, was killed on the ground.

The coroner did not set a date for the opening of the inquest into Mr Wood's death.

Bodies Discovered In North London House Fire

Fire crews fighting a blaze in north London have uncovered two bodies.

Six fire engines and more than 35 firefighters were called to the house in Fallow Court Avenue, North Finchley, just after 06:00 on Tuesday.

Firefighters found a woman's body in the kitchen and a man's body in a bedroom on the first floor. The fire is being treated as "unexplained".

Policeman And Journalist Latest To Be Charged In Payments Probe

A former Met Police officer and a journalist from The Sun are to be charged in connection with alleged illegal payments for information.

Paul Flattley and Sun defence editor Virginia Wheeler will be charged with conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office, prosecutors said.

The officer was allegedly paid more than £6,000 for information, including about the death of a 14-year-old girl.

Eight people have now been charged in connection with the payments probe.

Bodies Found In Sea Near Cliffs Were Climbers Went Missing
The search for two missing climbers has been called off after the discovery of two bodies in the sea off the coast of Anglesey. 23 Charged With Drug Offences Following Raids
More than 20 people have been charged with drug offences following a number of raids carried out in London, Gravesend, Dover and Deal. A total of 23 people were arrested during twenty raids carried out over three days. The suspects, ranging in age from 17 to 52, have all been charged in connection with the supply of class A drugs.

Two Bodies Found On Beaches In Scotland
Police in Scotland are working to identify two bodies found on separate beaches in Scotland on Thursday. The body of a man was found on a beach in St Andrews, while another body of a man was recovered on a beach near Glencaple, in Dumfries and Galloway.
