DNA Results Confirm Richard III Remains
Remains of a skeleton found under a car park in Leicester belong to Richard III, according to archeologists.
The first pictures of the remains emerged today, just before scentists and historians from the University of Leicester announced at a press conference that DNA evidence suggest they are the remains of the last Planatgenet king of England, who died at the Battle of Bosworth Field in 1485.
Speaking to journalists, the university's lead archaeologist Richard Buckley described the identity of the remains as 'beyond reasonable doubt'.
University of Leicester geneticist Dr Turi King said: "The DNA sequence obtained from the Gary Friars skeletal remains was compared with the two maternal line relatives of Richard III/
"We were ver excited to find that there is a DNA match between the maternal DNA from the family of Richard III and the skeletal remains we found at the Grey Friars dig."
