UK Theatre Producer Deported From Uganda

A UK theatre producer has been deported from Uganda over a play about the condition of gay people, a UK embassy spokesman has said.

David Cecil was arrested last September for "disobeying lawful orders" as it was performed without authorisation. The charges were subsequently dropped.

He was rearrested last week as proceedings to deport him began on the grounds he was an "undesirable person".

Homosexual acts are illegal in socially conservative Uganda.

Body In Car Discovered To Be Mannequin

A person feared dead inside a locked car was discovered to be a mannequin when paramedics responded to a 999 call.

Air and land ambulances were sent to Milton Road in Harwich at 07:40 on Tuesday morning following a 999 call made by a member of the public because they saw what they thought was a person not breathing.

Gary Sanderson, of the East of England Ambulance Service, said: "Following assessments at the scene, it appears the person in the car was actually a mannequin."

He added: "This is a very unusual incident our crews attended this morning and the person who dialled 999 did the right thing."

Council Sells 19th Century House For £1

Somerset County Council has sold a 19th century house for £1 to a trust as a community asset.

Hestercombe Garden Trust has been responsible for running and maintaining Hestercombe House for the past year.

The deal now means the trust will also own the house under an agreement which obligates it to operate the venue to benefit the community.

Police Issue Warning After Ostrich-Like Bird Reported Missing
People in Nottinghamshire have been warned that a large ostrich-like bird is on the loose after being reported missing from a private collection in Carlton-in-Lindrick. Police Hunt For Suspected Murderer
Police have launched a manhunt for 24-year-old Mark Czapla who is wanted in connection with the death of a woman in Essex. He is wanted on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 20s was found dead at a house in Queen Elizabeth Way at around 7.30am this morning.

Three Men Arrested Over Cannabis Find
Cannabis worth an estimated £20,000 has been recovered from an address in Harrow, police have reported. Police attended Oxleay Road in Harrow shortly after 4am on Wednesday, following reports of a group of men acting suspiciously.

Teen Jailed For Killing Sisters In House Fire
A teenager has been jailed for killing his two sisters in a house fire. Eighteen-year-old Shane Spence had previously denied killing Tatum, 14 and Demi-Jade, 12. The young girls died from smoke inhalation at their three-bedroom home in Lisle Road, South Shields, last April.

January House Prices Show Slight Increase
House prices in England and Wales increased by just 0.9% in January, according to the latest monthly figures from Land Registry. The increase takes the average house price to £186,045.
