Student Brings Financial Discrimination Case Against Oxford Uni
A postgraduate student is to present his case in court over allegedly being turned down by an Oxford University on financial grounds.
Claiming that St Hugh’s College is asking students to prove they can cover "excessive" living costs, Damien Shannon alleges the college is discriminating against poorer students.
It is claimed that Mr Shannon’s offer of a place at the college was withdrawn when he could not prove he had access to £12,900
Mr Shannon says that despite taking out a loan to cover tuition fees, he couldn’t prove he had access to a further £12,900 to cover living expenses.
Adding that his place on the year-long economic and social history course was withdrawn due to the "arbitrary figure" the college had set.
The case will be heard at Manchester County Court later.
