Environment Minister To Meet Retailers And Trade Bodies

The environment secretary, food retailers and trade bodies are to meet to establish a coordinated response to the ongoing horsemeat crisis, in an effort to restore consumer confidence.

Owen Paterson will meet with Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons among others.

The meeting follows a Consumer Intelligence survey showing that some 24% of 2,257 UK adults asked will buy less processed meat.

21% said they will buy less meat in general, and 62% were more likely to buy their meat from independent shops.

It is understood that the focus in the scandal is being moved from retailers, who inadvertently sold the tainted products, and on to suppliers.
