Frostbite Forces Fiennes To Quite Antarctic Expedition
Following a fall Sir Ranulph Fiennes has pulled out of an upcoming expedition across Antarctica in winter because of severe frostbite.
The 68-year-old fell while practicing skiing in white out training. He used his bare hands to fix a ski binding in temperatures around -30C.
It is understood his evacuation to South Africa is being hampered by blizzard conditions.
Ikea Recall Meatballs After Horse DNA Discovery
Ikea have removed its meatballs from UK stores "as a precaution", following the discovery of horsemeat in the product by Czech food inspectors.
The Scandinavian furniture store said the clearance in the Swedish food market section of its stores was a precaution as it became the latest company caught up in the Europe-wide horsemeat scandal.
Ikea was told by authorities in the Czech Republic last week and refilled its UK shelves with new stock on Friday, although the country's State Veterinary Administration only announced on Monday that it had found evidence of horse during DNA tests on products labelled as beef and pork meatballs from Ikea in the city of Brno.
Sire Denis Forman Dies Aged 95
Sir Denis Forman, the former Granada TV chairman who was responsible for The Jewel in the Crown, World in Action and Coronation Street, has died aged 95.
In a 50-year career Forman, who died on Sunday night in a nursing home in London, was also director of the British Film Institute and deputy chairman of the Royal Opera House.
One of the founding executives of Granada TV in the mid 1950s, Forman went on to become is joint managing director and chairman between 1974 and 1987.

Ikea Recalls Thousands Of Children's Beds
Furniture chain Ikea has said it is recalling thousands of children's beds due to a safety hazard. The company said it had received seven reports of a breakage of a metal rod which connected the guardrail to the bed frame. It added that a broken rod could expose sharp metal edges, presenting a laceration hazard.

The new UK branch of Swedish household and furnishing goods store, Ikea, has been forced to close, due to a crush caused by thousands of shoppers turning up for the opening night. The store in Edmonton, North London – the biggest in the UK – opened at midnight last night.

Pernod make £7.4bn bid for Allied Domecq
French drinks group Pernod Ricard has reached agreement on terms of to acquire UK rival Allied Domecq for £7.4bn. The acquisition, which would bring the world’s second and third biggest drinks companies together, has already been approved by Allied’s board. Pernod said the offer valued each Allied share at 670 pence.

Barclays Chairman Resigns Over Lending Scandal
The chairman of Barclays Bank has resigned over the lending rate fixing scandal which erupted last week. Mr Agius released a statement saying: "The buck stops with me". Barclays has been fined £290m ($450m) for attempting to manipulate the Libor inter-bank lending rate, a rate used to calculate short-term loans between banks in London.
