Sports Direct Buys Republic Clothing Chain
Sports Direct has bought the Republic fashion chain, in a move that administrators say "safeguard over 2,100 jobs" and secure a future for the Republic brand.
The purchase price paid by Sports Direct has not been disclosed.
The announcement comes two weeks after Leeds-based Republic went into administration following weak sales.
Sports Direct has purchased 116 Republic stores, the brand name and its head office.
It has also bought all Republic's stock, and sub-brands SoulCal, Fabric and Crafted.
Thousands Of Litres Of Whisky Accidentally Flushed
A whisky bottling plant in Dumbarton has accidentally flushed thousands of litres of the spirit into the drains.
It is understood the mix-up happened at Chivas Brothers during the night shift on Tuesday while equipment was being cleaned.
Instead of draining away waste water, the workers on duty somehow flushed out thousands of litres of bulk whisky.
Chivas Brothers - which employs 600 workers and produces the world's second biggest-selling brand, Ballantine's - said it was investigating an accidental release of spirit.
Great Train Robbery Mastermind Bruce Reynolds Dies Aged 81
Bruce Reynolds, the mastermind of the 1963 Great Train Robbery, has died aged 81, just months before the 50th anniversary of Britain's most spectacular heist.
Reynolds, who had been in poor health for some months.
Reynolds’s son, Nick, a musician with the band, Alabama 3, announced the death.

Sports Direct Acquires Debenhams Stake
Sports Direct has acquired a stake in Debenhams. The company has acquired 56.8 million shares, representing 4.63% of the issued share capital of Debenhams. The acquisition of shares has taken place without the prior knowledge of the Debenhams' board of directors, however Sports Direct has communicated to its board.

Sports Direct Staff Cash On Company's Success
Staff at retailer Sports Direct are to share in windfall profits with six bonus payouts. In the past year, the company's profits have grown by 40% to more than £200 million. Some 2,000 staff will now receive bonus payments worth £100,000 each.

The home ground of the Newcastle United football team is to be renamed after its owner's budget retailer, Sports Direct. Owner Mike Ashley made the decision to replace the historic stadium's 119 years as St Jame's Park in order to "showcase" sponsorship of the ground's name to interested parties.
