John Leslie And Estate Of Jade Goody Settle With NGN

Ex-Blue Peter host John Leslie, the estate of Jade Goody and ex-Tory MP Neil Hamilton and wife Christine have settled their phone-hacking claim against News Group Newspapers, publishers of the News of the World.

NGN apologised and agreed to pay "substantial" damages and costs at the High Court in London.

They were among hundreds of victims of the illegal practice which prompted the paper's closure in 2011.

PCC Chairman Apologises For Chauffeur Costs

Cumbria's police crime commissioner Richard Rhodes has apologised for using a taxpayer funded chauffeur-driven car.

It is claimed two trips cost £700.

Rhodes said he failed to check the cost of the car and driver before using it for the first time.

It is understood that Cumbria Police has so far arrested three people in connection with leaking the information about Mr Rhodes chauffeur-driven journeys to the public.

Investigation Launched In oil Covered Bird Deaths

An investigation into discharges by chemical tankers have been launched after hundreds of dead birds washed up along the south coast, the transport minister has said.

Seabirds have been left covered in oil additive polyisobutene (PIB) in two major incidents this year.

Mr Hammond said the inquiry's results would be passed to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).
