Man's Body Found In Chimney
The body of a man has been found in a chimney at a Derby firm of solicitors.
It is believed the man was a burglar.
The Derby Telegraph said the discovery was made on Wednesday after staff at Woolley Solicitors raised concerns over an unpleasant smell and an infestation of flies in the office.
They initially called a pest control company, thinking it was a pigeon stuck in the chimney, but the remains of the man were found by the pest control workers.
Police were then called to the Grade II listed building in the city centre.
The body has now been removed by police who are trying to identify it, but it is thought the body could have been in the chimney for several weeks.
Damage to an unused part of the building was first noticed six weeks ago and builders were called in to investigate. They found a hole in the roof and it was thought it was a result of an attempted break-in. The incident was forgotten about until the unusual smell in the office.
A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: "Officers are working to establish the identity of the man and inform his family.
"The death is being treated as unexplained."
