Figures Show Equality Imbalance In TV Presenters

Just 18% of TV presenters are woman over the age of 50, new figures have revealed.

Of 481 on-air presenters who regularly appear on BBC television and radio, Sky, ITN and Channel 5, just 26 of them are woman over 50.

Overall, women over 50 make up just 5% of on-screen presenters of all ages and both sexes and 7% of the workforce, both on and off screen.

The Older Women’s Commission, established by Labour deputy and shadow culture secretary Harriet Harman, will meet senior executives from the BBC, ITV, ITN, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky, to discuss the revealed imbalance.
