Poll Suggests 'Unhealthy' Drinking Culture In Parliament
A poll has suggested that a quarter of MPs think Parliament has an “unhealthy” drinking culture, the BBC has reported.
The survey, carried out by Alcohol Concern, found that 26% of 150 MPs thought their colleagues drank too much; breaking down as 31% of Labour MPs, 20% of Conservatives and 19% of Liberal Democrats.
The same report suggests that in the year to March 2011, £1.33m was spent across the House of Commons nine bars.
The charity has now called for the government to lead by example with a change in drinking habits.
