Profits More Than Double At Royal Mail
An increase in parcel deliveries is being credited with helping more than double annual profits at Royal Mail.
New figures show that in the 52 weeks to March operating profit jumped to £403m, up from £152m the previous year.
Its UK parcels and letter unit saw profits increase to £294m, up from £33m the year previous.
In terms of revenue Royal Mail remains the largest overall parcel delivery service, with Royal Mail chief executive Moya Greene saying the transformation of the firm “is well underway”.
The news comes ahead of the company’s expected privatisation next year.

Met Police Seize Scam Mail Aimed At UK Victims
In the first operation of its kind, officers from the Metropolitan Police Service's Economic and Specialist Crime Unit (Operation Sterling) took possession of a bulk delivery of scam mail intended for vulnerable victims across the UK and searched and closed five virtual offices used by the scammers.

Royal Mail To Trial Sunday Parcel Deliveries
A pilot scheme of Sunday parcel deliveries is to be trailed by Royal Mail, due to the demand for goods ordered online. A date when the trial will start has yet to be decided, but Royal Mail say that up to 100 postal offices will open seven days a week to allow people to collect parcels.

14.4 million letters lost every year by Royal Mail
Consumer group, Postwatch, have announced that thousands of letters are delivered to the wrong address every month, but few people complain to Royal Mail. The watchdog estimates that around 14.4 million letters are ‘lost’ every year, although around 60% of these are just simply posted through the wrong letterbox.
