UK Unemployment Average Falls Be 5,000
New figures from the Office for National Statistics have shown that average UK unemployment has fallen by 5,000.
In the three months to April the number of people out of work stood at 2.51 million, with the jobless rate remaining unchanged at 7.8%.
The number of people claiming Jobseekers Allowance in May fell by 8,600, down to 1.51 million, which leaves the number claiming the benefit at its lowest in two years.
In Scotland unemployment fell by 6,000 in the same period, remained unchanged in Wales, fell by 5,000 in Northern Ireland but rose by 6,000 in England.
The results are said to be “fairly flat” on unemployment as a whole.

The unemployment rate now stands at its lowest in over three years, at 7.6%. The figures also show that the number claiming jobseekers allowance now stands at 1.31 million, a fall of some 41,700.

New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) show that unemployment in the UK now stands at 5.7%, having fallen by 97,000 in the three months to December. This means the number of adults now in work stands at 73.2%. The figures also show an increase in average earnings with bonuses, up 2.1% compared to a year earlier.
