BBC Suspend 3D Programming
3D programming on the BBC will be suspended "for an indefinite period", as the broadcaster says there is a "lack of public appetite" for the technology.
The broadcaster has reported that 3D programming has not taken off, with the head of 3D at the BBC quoted as saying that audiences find it "quite hassly".
A two-year trial of the technology was launched in 2011, with several shows and special broadcasts, such as the olympics and Strictly Come Dancing, being shown in the format.
It is reported that figures show just half of the estimated 1.5 million households with 3D-enabled televisions tuned in to the Olympics 3D opening ceremony, with 3D broadcasts of the Queen's speech proving "even more disappointing" – with just 5% of the potential viewers, according to the BBC.
