Air And Sea Search Resumes For Missing Teen
A sea and air search will resume this morning for a missing 14-year-old girl, reported to be in difficulty in the sea at Whitmore Bay, south Wales.
It is understood that the alarm was raised at around 15:45 on Sunday in Barry Island, leading to an extensive search involving the Barry coastguard team, the Barry Dock lifeboat, two lifeboats from Penarth, lifeguards, police and a helicopter from Portland.
Between 09:00 and 10:00 this morning (Monday) a "low water search" will begin in rock pools that form when the tide goes out.
According to the BBC, coastguards believe the teenager could have been in trouble in the water for up to an hour before they were alerted.
Speaking to BBC Radio Wales, watch manager at Swansea Coastguard, David Hughes, said that he was "surprised" to have only received one call reporting the girl being in trouble. Saying that despite Whitmore Bay likely to have been very busy, "we only had one call reporting this female in difficulties which I find very very hard to believe".
