Two Die In 'Suspicious' Flat Fire

Two people have died in a fire at a block of flats in Hounslow, west London.

It is reported that a 30-year-old woman was found in the street after jumping from the burning building. She was pronounced dead by ambulance crew at around 02:34 on Wednesday morning.

58 firefighters tackled the blaze in a flat at the block in west London. Two other residents of the block are being treated for multiple injuries after also jumping from the building. Their condition is described as serious but not life threatening.

A second body was inside the second-floor flat where the fire started.

Reports claim that it sounded like an explosion.

Police have said they are treating the fire as suspicious.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Man Admits Double Killings
The Crown court is to pursue charges of murder against a 28-year-old man held over the deaths of two sisters. Mohammed Ali has already admitted the manslaughter of 22-year-old Yasmine Larbi-Cherif and her 20-year-old sister Sabrina, who were found stabbed in their Birmingham flat last year.

Grading Proposed For Speeding Drivers
A system of grading for those caught speeding on the UK's roads has been proposed. Drivers caught speeding could be given more penalty points on their licence depending on how much over the speed limit they are. Ministers are looking at a scheme under which the worst offenders would get six points on their driving licence.

Residents Evacuated After Crane Collapse
A 200ft crane has collapsed through the roof of a Liverpool city centre apartment block, forcing the evacuation of the building. The crash happened at 12.05pm in Tabley Street, behind Park Lane, on the outskirts of the city. It is understood the man driving the 100 tonne crane was thrown from the cab on impact. His condition is unknown.
