Govt Shelf Minimum Alcohol Pricing Policy
Plans to introduce minimum alcohol pricing for England and Wales have been shelved.
Announcing the move, minister Jeremy Browne said there were fears the policy would hit responsible drinkers but added that the policy would remian "under consideration".
They have also rejected a ban on multi-buy sales while allowing for a move to make sure such sales don't fall below to cost of alcohol duty and VAT.
Mr Browne went on to say that there was not enough "concrete evidence" that a minimum pricing policy would reduce problem drinking and its side-effects without impacting those who drink responsibly.
Labour criticised the announcement saying that the government had done a U-turn on a policy that both the PM and home secretary had backed.
