Exploratory Oil Drilling In West Sussex Given Go Ahead
Exploratory oil drilling is to begin in West Sussex.
The environment agency have issued a waste permit to energy company, Cuadrilla, allowing it to begin work near Balcombe.
It is understood that work is due to begin on Saturday and that residents and campaigners from around the country opposed to the drilling will stage protests from today (Thursday).

Exploratory oil drilling at a site in West Sussex, which has been delayed by protestors for almost a week, is expected to get underway this morning. The website of Balcombe Parish Council says that once energy company Cuadrilla are finished testing equipment they expect work to begin.

60 Villagers Release Pro-Fracking Statement
A pro-fracking letter has been signed by 60 residents of a village at the centre of an ongoing protest against the practice. Protesters have been in Balcombe, West Sussex, since energy firm Caudrilla was granted permission to begin work on exploratory oil drilling.

Protesters Delay West Sussex Oil Drilling
Protesters have delayed the start of exploratory oil drilling in West Sussex for at least 24 hours. Cuadrilla, the company behind the drilling, has said that protesters have blocked the entrance to the woodland site near Balcombe. It follows the stalling of delivery tankers for three days last week by protesters.

Two Arrested Over Hastings Pier Blaze
As firefighters continue to battle the blaze on Hastings pier in East Sussex, two men have been arrested on suspicion of arson. East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, who spent most of the night trying to control the fire, said around 95% of the Victorian pier has been destroyed. There are no reports of any injuries.
