British Gas Pilot Free Power Saturdays

Some customers of British Gas could be about to benefit from free gas on Saturdays, in an effort to encourage weekend electricity use when demand from businesses falls off.

It is understood that the energy company has already begun piloting the scheme, according to the BBC.

Following a larger pilot, it is thought the scheme could be rolled out to smart meter customers from 2014.

The roll-out of smart meters is still said to be at an early stage but the company currently has around one million customers using the new meter.

British Gas parent company Centrica already operates Free Power Saturday as part of its operations in Texas and across the north-east of the United States.
