Hyde Park Bomb Accused Is Granted Bail

A 61-year-old man charged with the murder of four British soldiers in an 1982 IRA bombing in Hyde Park has been granted bail.

Household Cavalry soldiers Roy Bright, Dennie Daly, Simon Tipper and Geoffrey Young were killed in an explosion as they rode to the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace.

John Downey, of Co Donegal, Ireland is charged with the murders of the four men. He also faces a charge of intending to cause an explosion likely to endanger life.

Downey was arrested at Gatwick Airport in May.

At the Old Bailey, his trial date was set for 14 January 2014 and Downey was granted conditional bail.

Conditions include £55,000 bail money, wearing of an electronic tag, living at a specified address, maintaining a curfew and reporting daily to a police station.

Boxer found guilty over car crash
Former world boxing champion Naseem Hamed has been warned that he could face jail after pleading guilty to a dangerous driving charge. The 31-year-old former featherweight champion from Sheffield was charged following a three-car crash, involving the boxer's £300,000 McLaren-Mercedes, at Ringinglow Road in Sheffield in May last year.

Wikileaks Founder Granted Bail
The founder of whistle-blowing website Wikileaks has been granted bail in London. Julian Assange, 39, will however remain in custody as prosecutors have two hours to lodge an appeal. The Australian is currently fighting extradition to Sweden, where he is accused of sexually assaulting two women.

Soap star granted bail in rape case
'Emmerdale' actor Ben Freeman has been granted bail after appearing in court in Barbados charged with rape. The actor, who plays Scott Windsor in the ITV soap, was arrested and charged with the rape of a 16-year-old British girl at the Almond Beach Village resort on the island on November 29.

Hyde Park Bombing Accused Given Provisional Trial Date
A rpovisional trial date for 61-year-old John Downey, accused of the 1982 IRA Hyde Park bombing which killed four British soldiers, has been set for November 18. Downey, of Co Donegal, was arrested at Gatwick Airport in April.

Assange Is Granted Bail
Julian Assange, the founder of whistle-blowing website Wikileaks, has been granted conditional bail. Earlier this week, the 39-year-old Australian was granted bail in London but prosecutors objected to the decision and he remained in jail. He is currently fighting extradition to Sweden, where he is accused of sexually assaulting two women.
