'Frank' new drugs campaign launched
The government has launched a £3 million nationwide drugs awareness programme today for young people to anonymously get information and support on the effects of drug use.
The 'Frank' campaign centres on providing young people with credible and reliable information to understand the risks associated with drug use. It will give parents and carers' the skills and confidence to communicate with their children about drugs, raising awareness of the risks associated with drug use and providing a source of advice, information and support.
Department of Health Minister Hazel Blears said: "Drugs may be illegal but talking about them isn't. I am delighted that we now have Frank to help parents, carers and young people get accurate and credible advice and information about drugs.
"Frank is a gateway for information about local treatment services, effects and risks of drugs, advice and support on how to talk to young people, leaflets and much, much more."
'Frank' is available at the end of the phone (0800 77 66 00) or on the web (at www.talktofrank.com ) to talk to young people, parents and carers concerned about drugs.
The first television advertisements will be screened on 23 May.
