Sex Abuse Teenager Described By CPS Barrister As 'Predatory'
A barrister has been criticised for describing a young teenage sex abuse victim as "predatory" and "sexually experienced".
The Crown Prosecution Service, for whom the barrister was acting, said that the comments made in court during a trial were "inappropriate".
Barrister Robert Colover's comments were made during the trial of 41-year-old Neil Wilson, who admitted abusing the 13-year-old girl at his home in Romford, London.
The comments came under scrutiny when Wilson's sentence of eight-months, suspended for two years, was referred to the CPS as being "possibly unduly lenient".
Presiding judge Nigel Peters said that he had taken Mr Colover's comments on the victim into account when sentencing Wilson.
Reviewing the case the CPS said of Mr Colover's comments: "The language used by prosecution counsel was inappropriate.
"The transgressor in this case was the defendant and he bears responsibility for his criminal acts."
If the CPS finds that the sentence given to Wilson is 'unduly lenient', it will be referred to the Court of Appeal.
