Dragon Tree Blooms For First Time In 25 Years
A Dracaena draco tree, more commonly known as a dragon tree, has flowered for the first time in 25 years.
The tree, native to the Canary Islands but now extinct there, was 15 years old when it was planted in the Great Glasshouse at the garden in Llanarthne, near Carmarthen.
It is understood that the tree has never flowered due to the climate being significantly cooler in the UK, however the recent heatwave is being cited as the reason for the unexpected blooming.
The bloom is expected to reach 4ft (1.2m) on the tree.
