Brit convicted in Greek court granted bail
A British lorry driver who was sentenced to 11 years in jail by a Greek court for transporting illegal immigrants into the country has been freed on bail today.
David Wilson, 44, from Wyke near Bradford, was convicted in March after Greek officials in the town of Patras discovered 19 Kurds hiding in the rear of his lorry. Mr Wilson denied smuggling the immigrant into Greece but was jailed for 11 years and also fined €47,000.
However, Mr Wilson was freed on bail to return back to Britain today on a security of €2,000. He was ordered to appear again at the court on November 4 when his appeal will be heard.
