Man In Court Over Asda Car Park Death
A 65-year-old man has appeared in court charged with manslaughter after a 64-year-old man was killed in an alleged row over a parking space, Sky News has said.
Alan Watts appeared at Bedford Magistrates' Court only to confirm his name and address and that he understood the charge.
He was remanded on bail following the death of Brian Holmes after they were said to have argued over a disabled parking spot.
Mr Holmes who was from Sandy, Bedfordshire, died from head injuries on 4 August - the day after the incident at an Asda supermarket in Biggleswade.
In a statement, released through the police, Mr Holmes' family said: "The family are devastated by the loss of Brian in such shocking circumstances.
"A wife has lost her husband, best friend and carer all in one go.
"Brian was a family man who adored his grandchildren and family, and had only this week been given the all-clear following treatment for cancer.
"Brian and his wife were only just starting to make plans for the future that they only dared to dream of."
Mr Watts is due to appear at Luton Crown Court on 28 August for a preliminary hearing. As part of his bail conditions, he has surrendered his passport and must report to a local police station daily.
He is also not allowed to drive or visit the supermarket where the alleged incident took place.
