'Missing' Leeds Man Appears In Court

A Leeds man who failed to appear at court last week and subsequently went missing is due in court today.

49-year-old Michael Tordoff-Brown from Wortley is appearing at Leeds Crown Court this morning to stand trial for sexual offences.

He was arrested yesterday in Ilkley following an operation by officers from West Yorkshire Police.

He has not been charged with any additional offences.

Merseyside Appeal Over Armed Robbery

Merseyside Police has released CCTV stills of a man wanted in connection with an attempted armed robbery in Old Swan on Thursday, 8 August.

At about 17:00 a man with his face covered entered the SBM Food and Wine store on Derby Lane and approached the counter.

He then produced a kitchen knife, threatened the staff member and demanded money. The staff member refused and the offender said he had a gun, although none was seen.

The staff member refused again and the offender ran out of the store empty handed.

Stills of the man can be seen on the Merseyside Police website.

Family In Car Crash Victim Tribute

A statement has been released by the family of John Dempster, who died in a road traffic collision between Cardenden and Lochgelly last Thursday.

It said: "Following a tragic accident on 8th August 2013, John Dempster, known to all who loved him as Rev. Only son of Mig and Johnny Dempster, brother to Caroline, fiancé of Sarah Bett and loving dad of Leo.

"To all who knew him, John was a loving, caring person. Close to his family and friends, he was loved by them all. Of huge comfort to the family has been the way the community has come together and openly expressed their sorrow and given their support.

"John will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him."

'Career Criminal' Jailed Over Footprint

A 'career criminal' has been sent to prison after admitting burgling 17 homes in Birmingham, thanks to the discovery of a footprint.

Barry Roberts, of no fixed address, began his four year jail term after admitting to the burglaries at Birmingham Crown Court last week.

The 46-year-old was arrested following a police chase after he was spotted acting suspiciously on the driveway of a house on Drews Lane in Ward End on 5 July.

Footwear impressions taken from his shoes linked him to crime scenes in Alum Rock and Sparkhill.

Mr Roberts then confessed to burgling 17 houses between May and July this year, including properties on Jackson Road, St Margaret’s Road and Ward End Road.

Wanted Man Arrested In London
The man wanted in connection with the murder of a 66-year-old man who intervened during a robbery, has been arrested. Ian John McLoughlin, 55, was arrested in London at around 01:00. He was wanted on suspicion of murder and robbery. Airports and ports had been put on alert as police hinted for McLoughlin.

Man In Serious Condition After Takeaway Brawl
A man is being treated for "life-threatening injuries" after a brawl at a takeaway restaurant spilled out onto the street. Police said that a 38-year-old man got "caught up" in the fight at a takeaway in Wakefield. He is understood to have been punched in the face and hit his head on the road outside the restaurant.

Body 'Is Missing Best Man'
A body has been found in a Shropshire lake during a search for a best man who disappeared after going for a swim at a wedding reception. Patrick Cody, 26, from Dudley, disappeared after going into a lake at Patshull Park Hotel, Pattingham, near Wolverhampton, around 11pm on Friday.
