Sky News Cameraman Killed In Egypt
A Sky news cameraman has been shot and killed while covering the ongoing violence in Cairo, Egypt.
The broadcaster confirmed the death of 61-year-old Mick Deane on Wednesday.
Mr Dean had worked for Sky for 15 years.
In a statement, Head of Sky News, John Ryley, paid tribute to an "experienced journalist" and a "much-loved colleague".
He added: "Everyone at Sky News is shocked and saddened by Mick's death.
"He was a talented and experienced journalist who had worked with Sky News for many years. The loss of a much-loved colleague will be deeply felt across Sky News.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family. We will give them our full support at this extremely difficult time."
Other Sky News employees paid tribute to Deane, with Sky's foreign affairs editor Tim Marshall describing him as "a friend, brave as a lion but what a heart… what a human being.
"He was a friend. Our hearts go out to his family. He died doing what he'd been doing so brilliantly for decades."
Sky News presenter Kay Burley added: "My heart breaks for the family of our friend Mick Deane killed today in Cairo. A true gentlemen. It was an honour to have known him."
Earlier on Wednesday, security forces in Egypt stormed two protest camps in the capital, leaving dozens of people dead. A state of emergency was subsequently declared in the country after the army moved in to clear the camps. The camps were occupied by supporters of the deposed President, Mohammed Morsi.
Mr Deane was part of the Sky news team covering the unrest in Egypt, but it is understood no other members of the group were injured. He leaves behind a wife and two sons.
